Being Researchers: Learning Through Curiosity
Dear San Patricio Community,
This month, our school is placing special focus on the value of being researchers. This doesn’t simply mean looking up information or working on projects; it’s something much more present in everyday life. It’s about observing carefully, asking questions, challenging what we take for granted, and wanting to understand how and why things happen. It’s that genuine curiosity we see in our students when they don’t settle for the first answer and want to go a step further.
This value shows up in many ways throughout the day. We see it when a student tries different solutions before giving up, when another chooses to explore a topic that caught their interest in class, or when students work together to test whether an idea truly works. Being a researcher also means making mistakes, adjusting, and trying again — and that is a key part of learning.
Very soon, we’ll have the opportunity to see this value in action during our STEAM Fair, where students will share projects that reflect their curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. It will be a wonderful space to see how they investigate, connect ideas, and turn questions into meaningful learning.
At home, this value can also be encouraged through simple actions: listening to their questions, exploring answers together, or simply saying, “That’s a great question.” When children feel their curiosity is welcomed, they feel more confident exploring and learning deeply.

Ser investigadores: aprender mirando con curiosidad
Querida comunidad San Patricio:
Este mes, en el colegio estamos poniendo especial atención al valor de ser investigadores. Y no nos referimos únicamente a buscar información o hacer proyectos, sino a algo mucho más cotidiano: observar con atención, hacer preguntas, cuestionar lo que damos por hecho y querer entender cómo y por qué suceden las cosas. Esa curiosidad genuina que vemos en nuestros alumnos cuando no se conforman con la primera respuesta y quieren ir un paso más allá.
En el día a día, este valor se vive de muchas maneras. Se nota cuando un alumno prueba distintas soluciones antes de rendirse, cuando otro investiga un tema que despertó su interés en clase, o cuando trabajan en equipo para comprobar si una idea realmente funciona. Ser investigador también implica equivocarse, ajustar y volver a intentar, y eso es parte esencial del aprendizaje.
Muy pronto tendremos la oportunidad de ver este valor en acción durante nuestra STEAM Fair, donde los alumnos compartirán proyectos en los que han puesto en práctica su curiosidad, creatividad y pensamiento crítico. Será un espacio para descubrir cómo investigan, cómo conectan ideas y cómo transforman preguntas en aprendizajes significativos.
Desde casa, este valor también se puede fortalecer con gestos sencillos: escuchar sus preguntas, animarlos a buscar respuestas juntos o simplemente decirles “qué buena pregunta”. Cuando los niños sienten que su curiosidad es bienvenida, se atreven a explorar más y a aprender con mayor profundidad.

이번 달 우리 학교에서는 ‘연구하는 태도’, 즉 연구하는 사람이 되는 것이라는 가치를 특별히 강조하고 있습니다. 이는 단순히 정보를 찾거나 과제를 수행하는 것을 의미하지 않습니다. 주변을 주의 깊게 관찰하고, 질문을 던지며, 당연하게 여겨왔던 것들을 다시 생각해 보고, 왜 그런지 이해하려는 태도입니다. 아이들이 첫 번째 답에 만족하지 않고 한 걸음 더 나아가려 할 때 보이는 그 자연스러운 호기심이 바로 이 가치입니다.
이 가치는 학교 생활 속에서 다양한 모습으로 나타납니다. 한 가지 방법이 잘되지 않을 때 다른 해결책을 시도하는 모습, 수업 중 흥미를 느낀 주제를 더 깊이 탐구하는 모습, 또는 친구들과 함께 아이디어가 실제로 가능한지 확인해 보는 과정에서 드러납니다. 연구하는 태도에는 실수하고, 수정하고, 다시 도전하는 과정도 포함되며, 이는 배움에서 매우 중요한 부분입니다.
곧 열릴 STEAM Fair에서는 이 가치를 직접 확인할 수 있는 기회가 될 것입니다. 학생들은 자신의 프로젝트를 통해 호기심과 창의력, 비판적 사고를 어떻게 적용했는지 공유할 예정입니다. 질문이 어떻게 의미 있는 배움으로 이어지는지 볼 수 있는 소중한 시간이 될 것입니다.
가정에서도 이 가치는 작은 실천으로 충분히 키울 수 있습니다. 아이들의 질문에 귀 기울이고, 함께 답을 찾아보거나, 단순히 *“좋은 질문이네”*라고 말해 주는 것만으로도 큰 힘이 됩니다. 아이들은 자신의 호기심이 존중받는다고 느낄 때, 더 깊이 탐구하고 배우려는 용기를 얻게 됩니다.
