MAP Growth: Understanding Students to Support Them Better

Dear San Patricio Community,

This week, students across all grade levels are taking the first MAP Growth assessment of the school year. MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive assessment that helps us better understand each student’s knowledge in areas such as Reading, Language, and Mathematics. The difficulty of the questions changes based on each response, so every student follows a different path through the test. The assessment is completed during school hours using their iPad.

MAP Growth is not a pass-or-fail test, and the results do not affect grades. Its purpose is to give us a clear picture of where each student is academically so we can better support their learning. We administer MAP Growth three times during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring, allowing us to track progress over time.

To help the results reflect what students truly know, we ask them to work calmly, avoid guessing, and give their best effort. It also helps to arrive well rested, eat breakfast, and take the assessment without pressure to earn a “good grade.”

For our teachers, this information is valuable because it helps identify strengths, areas that need more support, and opportunities to adjust instruction based on the needs of each group and each student.

MAP Growth: conocer para acompañar mejor

Querida comunidad San Patricio:

Esta semana nuestros alumnos, de todos los grados, presentan la primera aplicación de MAP Growth del ciclo escolar. Es una evaluación adaptativa por computadora que nos permite conocer con mayor precisión los conocimientos de cada estudiante en áreas como Lectura, Lenguaje y Matemáticas. Las preguntas cambian de dificultad según las respuestas, por lo que cada alumno recibe un recorrido distinto. La prueba se responde durante el horario escolar utilizando su iPad.

MAP Growth no se aprueba ni se reprueba y sus resultados no afectan las calificaciones. Lo que buscamos es obtener una fotografía clara del punto en el que se encuentra cada alumno para poder acompañar mejor su aprendizaje. Durante el ciclo lo aplicamos en tres momentos: otoño, invierno y primavera, lo que nos permite observar su progreso a lo largo del año.

Para que los resultados reflejen realmente lo que cada estudiante sabe, les pedimos que respondan con calma, sin adivinar y dando su mejor esfuerzo. También ayuda mucho llegar descansados, haber desayunado bien y enfrentar la prueba sin presión por obtener una “buena calificación”.

Para nuestros maestros, esta información es muy útil porque permite identificar fortalezas, detectar áreas que requieren mayor apoyo y ajustar el trabajo en clase a las necesidades reales de cada grupo y de cada alumno.

MAP Growth: 학생을 더 잘 이해하고 지원하기 위해

사랑하는 San Patricio 가족 여러분께,

이번 주에는 전 학년 학생들이 이번 학년도의 첫 번째 MAP Growth 평가를 치릅니다. MAP Growth는 학생 개개인의 읽기, 언어, 수학 영역의 학업 수준과 지식을 보다 정확하게 파악할 수 있도록 돕는 컴퓨터 기반 적응형 평가입니다. 학생의 응답에 따라 다음 문항의 난이도가 달라지기 때문에 각 학생마다 평가 과정이 다르게 진행됩니다. 시험은 정규 수업 시간 중 iPad를 사용해 응시합니다.

MAP Growth는 합격이나 불합격을 결정하는 시험이 아니며, 성적에도 반영되지 않습니다. 이 평가의 목적은 각 학생이 현재 어느 수준에 있는지를 정확히 파악해 학습을 더 효과적으로 지원하는 데 있습니다. 한 학년 동안 가을, 겨울, 봄 총 세 차례 실시하여 학생들의 성장 과정을 확인합니다.

결과가 학생의 실제 실력을 잘 반영할 수 있도록 차분하게 문제를 풀고, 추측으로 답하지 않으며, 최선을 다해 참여해 주기를 바랍니다. 충분한 수면과 아침 식사도 도움이 되며, “좋은 점수”에 대한 부담 없이 평가에 임하는 것이 중요합니다.

교사들에게는 이 결과가 학생들의 강점과 추가 지원이 필요한 영역을 파악하고, 각 반과 학생의 실제 필요에 맞게 수업을 조정하는 데 매우 유용한 자료가 됩니다.
