Proud of Our Mexican Heritage

Dear San Patricio Family,

Last week, we celebrated another anniversary of the beginning of Mexico’s Independence, and once again, it was wonderful to see our students embrace the occasion with such enthusiasm. At school, we wanted them to experience it in a meaningful way: students came dressed in traditional Mexican attire, took part in traditional games, and enjoyed live mariachi music.

Being proud of Mexico means recognizing a culture that is rich, diverse, and deeply welcoming. We are a country that knows how to receive others, share what we have, and open our arms to people from around the world. That combination of pride in our roots and openness to other cultures is also something we strive to nurture at San Patricio International School.

Our identity as Mexicans is also connected to democracy. Learning to participate, listen to different proposals, express an opinion, and respect collective decisions begins long before adulthood.

This Thursday, September 24, our Middle School and High School students will have the opportunity to put those ideas into practice during our Student Council election. I am glad to see them get involved, listen to their peers, and understand that their voices can play an active role in school life.

Celebrating Mexico means enjoying our traditions, but also understanding the responsibility we have toward our community. I hope our students grow up proud of their roots, open to the world, and aware that participating, listening, and showing respect are also ways of helping shape the country they want to live in.

Orgullo de ser mexicanos

Querida familia San Patricio:

La semana pasada celebramos un aniversario más del inicio de nuestra Independencia y, una vez más, me dio mucho gusto ver cómo nuestros alumnos viven estas fechas con entusiasmo. En el colegio quisimos vivirlo de una manera cercana: nuestros alumnos llegaron con vestimenta mexicana, participaron en juegos tradicionales y disfrutaron del mariachi.

Sentir orgullo por México es reconocer una cultura rica, diversa y profundamente hospitalaria. Somos un país que sabe recibir, compartir y abrir los brazos a personas de distintas partes del mundo. Esa combinación entre el cariño por nuestras raíces y la apertura hacia otras culturas también forma parte de lo que buscamos transmitir en San Patricio International School.

Nuestra identidad como mexicanos también está ligada a la vida democrática. Participar, escuchar distintas propuestas, expresar una opinión y respetar las decisiones colectivas son prácticas que se aprenden y se fortalecen desde jóvenes.

Este jueves 24 de septiembre, nuestros alumnos de Secundaria y Preparatoria tendrán la oportunidad de llevarlo a la práctica durante la elección del Consejo Estudiantil. Me entusiasma verlos involucrarse, escuchar a sus compañeros y asumir que también ellos pueden tener una voz activa en la vida de su colegio.

Celebrar a México es disfrutar nuestras tradiciones, pero también comprender la responsabilidad que tenemos con nuestra comunidad. Deseo que nuestros alumnos crezcan orgullosos de sus raíces, abiertos al mundo y conscientes de que participar, escuchar y respetar también son formas de construir el país en el que quieren vivir.

멕시코인으로서의 자부심

사랑하는 San Patricio 가족 여러분께,

지난주 우리는 멕시코 독립의 시작을 기념하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다. 학생들이 이 특별한 날을 즐겁게 받아들이는 모습을 다시 한번 볼 수 있어 무척 기뻤습니다. 학교에서는 학생들이 멕시코 전통 의상을 입고, 전통 놀이에 참여하며, 마리아치 공연을 함께 즐길 수 있도록 준비했습니다.

멕시코에 대한 자부심은 우리의 풍부하고 다양한 문화, 그리고 다른 사람들을 따뜻하게 맞이하는 전통을 소중히 여기는 데서 시작됩니다. 멕시코는 세계 여러 나라의 사람들에게 마음을 열고, 함께 나누며, 기꺼이 환영하는 문화를 가진 나라입니다. 자신의 뿌리를 소중히 여기면서도 다른 문화를 열린 마음으로 받아들이는 태도는 San Patricio International School에서도 중요하게 생각하는 가치입니다.

멕시코인으로서의 정체성은 민주주의와도 연결되어 있습니다. 다양한 의견을 듣고, 자신의 생각을 표현하며, 공동체의 결정을 존중하는 태도는 어릴 때부터 배우고 실천할 수 있습니다.

오는 9월 24일 목요일, Middle School과 High School 학생들은 학생회 선거에 참여하며 이러한 가치를 직접 경험하게 됩니다. 학생들이 적극적으로 참여하고, 친구들의 의견을 경청하며, 자신의 목소리가 학교 공동체 안에서 의미가 있다는 것을 배우는 모습을 기대하고 있습니다.

멕시코를 기념한다는 것은 우리의 전통을 즐기는 것과 동시에 공동체에 대한 책임을 이해하는 일이기도 합니다. 학생들이 자신의 뿌리를 자랑스럽게 여기고, 세계를 향해 열린 마음을 가지며, 참여와 경청, 존중이 자신들이 살아가고 싶은 사회를 만들어 가는 방법이라는 것을 배우기를 바랍니다.
