Being Proactive: Anticipate, Act, and Transform
Dear San Patricio Community,
This month we’re emphasizing a very valuable quality for life: proactivity. You’ve probably heard this word many times, but what does it really mean to be proactive? Being proactive goes beyond just reacting to situations; it involves anticipating, taking initiative, acting decisively, and, above all, positively transforming the environment around us.
Fostering proactivity from an early age is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. A proactive child doesn’t simply wait for instructions; they look for ways to help, solve problems, or improve any situation they encounter. Proactive children have ideas, ask questions, make suggestions, and are not afraid of making mistakes, because they understand every initiative is a learning opportunity.
As parents, we can do a lot at home. A great way to encourage proactivity is by allowing children to make their own decisions, suggesting solutions when they face challenges, and actively involving them in everyday family activities. This helps them build self-confidence and teaches them the value of influencing their surroundings.
At San Patricio International School, we constantly strive to cultivate this attitude among our students. We deeply value the initiative shown by our students in classrooms, special projects, and community activities. We strongly believe that educating proactive young people means shaping future leaders capable of making a meaningful difference wherever they go.

Ser proactivos: anticiparnos, actuar y transformar
Querida comunidad San Patricio,
Este mes estamos poniendo especial atención en una cualidad muy valiosa para la vida: la proactividad. Seguramente han escuchado esta palabra muchas veces, pero, ¿qué significa realmente ser proactivos? Ser proactivo va más allá de reaccionar ante las situaciones; es anticiparse, tomar la iniciativa, actuar con determinación y, sobre todo, ser capaces de transformar nuestro entorno positivamente.
Fomentar la proactividad desde edades tempranas es un regalo que damos a nuestros hijos para toda la vida. Un niño proactivo no solo espera instrucciones, sino que busca cómo ayudar, solucionar o mejorar cualquier situación que se le presente. Son niños que tienen ideas, que hacen preguntas, que sugieren y que no temen cometer errores, porque entienden que cada iniciativa es una oportunidad de aprendizaje.
Como padres, podemos hacer mucho desde casa. Una excelente manera es animarlos a tomar decisiones propias, proponer soluciones cuando enfrenten algún problema, e invitarlos a involucrarse activamente en las actividades cotidianas de la familia. Esto les ayuda a construir confianza en sí mismos y les enseña a valorar el poder que tienen para influir en su entorno.
En San Patricio International School, trabajamos diariamente para promover esta actitud entre nuestros estudiantes. Valoramos enormemente la iniciativa de nuestros alumnos, ya sea dentro del aula, en proyectos especiales o en actividades comunitarias. Creemos firmemente que educar jóvenes proactivos es formar futuros líderes capaces de marcar la diferencia en cualquier ámbito que se desempeñen.

이번 달 우리 학교에서는 삶에서 매우 소중한 가치인 주도성(Proactivity) 에 대해 강조하고 있습니다. ‘주도적이다’라는 표현은 많이 들어보셨겠지만, 과연 진정한 주도성이란 무엇을 의미할까요? 주도적인 사람은 단지 상황에 반응하는 데 그치지 않고, 미리 생각하고, 적극적으로 행동하며, 자신과 주변 환경에 긍정적인 변화를 만들어 가는 사람입니다.
어릴 때부터 주도성을 길러주는 것은 우리가 아이들에게 평생 줄 수 있는 큰 선물 중 하나입니다. 주도적인 아이들은 단순히 지시를 기다리지 않고, 스스로 도울 방법을 찾고, 문제를 해결하며, 상황을 개선하는 능력을 키워 나갑니다. 그들은 질문하고, 아이디어를 제안하며, 실수를 두려워하지 않습니다. 이는 모든 시도가 성장의 기회라는 것을 잘 알기 때문입니다.
가정에서도 이러한 주도성을 키울 수 있습니다. 아이들이 스스로 작은 결정을 내릴 수 있게 격려하고, 문제에 부딪혔을 때 스스로 해결책을 찾도록 이끌어 주세요. 또한 가정의 다양한 활동에 적극적으로 참여하도록 유도하면, 아이들은 자신감을 키우고, 자신이 주변에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있는 존재임을 배우게 됩니다.
