Learning to Look Beyond Our Borders
Dear San Patricio Community,
Being a Global Citizen means learning to understand the world beyond our own experience: discovering other cultures, listening to different perspectives, and becoming familiar with ways of thinking, living, and interacting that may be different from our own.
Throughout this month, students at San Patricio International School are experiencing this in very concrete ways. In Middle School, they take part in our In-house MUN, where they practice dialogue, debate, and the analysis of international issues.
In Preschool and Elementary, we celebrate Multicultural Week. Preschool students visit stands representing different countries, taste traditional foods, and learn about their history. In Elementary, students work in teams to explore and present countries from around the world.
As a campus director, one of the things I enjoy most about these activities is seeing the curiosity they spark in our students. When they discover an unfamiliar tradition, try a new flavor, or hear a perspective different from their own, they begin to see the world through a broader lens. That openness is exactly what we want to encourage: students who are proud of their identity while being able to understand and respect other cultures.
We want our students to move through the world with curiosity, respect, and sound judgment. Understanding other cultures, listening to different voices, and engaging with others openly are also an important part of their education.

Aprender a mirar más allá de nuestras fronteras
Querida comunidad San Patricio:
Ser un Ciudadano Global implica aprender a entender el mundo más allá de nuestra propia realidad: conocer otras culturas, escuchar distintas perspectivas y acercarnos a formas de pensar, vivir y convivir diferentes a las nuestras.
Durante este mes, en San Patricio International School lo trabajamos a través de experiencias muy concretas. En Secundaria, nuestros alumnos participan en el In-house MUN, donde practican el diálogo, la argumentación y el análisis de temas internacionales.
En Preescolar y Primaria vivimos nuestra Semana Multicultural. Los alumnos de Preescolar recorren distintos stands dedicados a países del mundo, prueban comida típica y conocen parte de su historia. En Primaria, los estudiantes trabajan por equipos para presentar diferentes países y compartir lo que han aprendido.
Como directora, una de las cosas que más disfruto de estas actividades es ver la curiosidad que despiertan en nuestros alumnos. Cuando descubren una tradición que no conocían, prueban un sabor distinto o escuchan una postura diferente a la suya, empiezan a mirar el mundo con otros ojos. Esa apertura es justamente lo que queremos impulsar: alumnos orgullosos de su identidad, pero capaces de comprender y respetar otras culturas.
Queremos que nuestros alumnos aprendan a moverse por el mundo con curiosidad, respeto y criterio propio. Entender otras culturas, escuchar distintas voces y convivir con apertura son aprendizajes que también forman parte de su educación.

Global Citizen으로 성장한다는 것은 자신이 익숙한 환경을 넘어 더 넓은 세상을 이해하는 법을 배우는 것입니다. 다양한 문화를 접하고, 서로 다른 관점을 듣고, 우리와 다른 삶의 방식과 생각을 존중하는 태도에서 시작됩니다.
이번 달 San Patricio International School에서는 다양한 활동을 통해 이러한 가치를 직접 경험하고 있습니다. Middle School에서는 In-house MUN에 참여하며 학생들이 국제적인 주제를 분석하고, 자신의 생각을 논리적으로 표현하며, 다른 의견을 경청하는 연습을 합니다.
Preschool과 Elementary에서는 Multicultural Week를 진행합니다. Preschool 학생들은 여러 나라를 소개하는 다양한 부스를 둘러보며 전통 음식을 맛보고 각 나라의 역사와 문화를 접합니다. Elementary 학생들은 팀별로 세계 여러 나라를 탐구하고 배운 내용을 함께 나눕니다.
캠퍼스 디렉터로서 이러한 활동을 통해 학생들의 호기심이 커지는 모습을 보는 것은 큰 기쁨입니다. 익숙하지 않은 전통을 발견하고, 새로운 음식을 맛보고, 자신과 다른 관점을 들으면서 학생들은 세상을 더 넓은 시각으로 바라보기 시작합니다. 자신의 정체성을 자랑스럽게 여기면서도 다른 문화를 이해하고 존중할 수 있는 태도, 바로 그것이 우리가 학생들에게 길러 주고 싶은 모습입니다.
우리 학생들이 세상을 향해 호기심과 존중, 그리고 자신만의 판단력을 가지고 나아가기를 바랍니다. 다른 문화를 이해하고, 다양한 목소리에 귀 기울이며, 열린 마음으로 사람들과 관계를 맺는 것 역시 교육의 중요한 부분입니다.
